equiwatt launches Demand Flexibility Service Events with Game-Changing Automation Features to Empower UK Households

New powerSmart events by equiwatt enables UK households to easily participate in NESO’s Demand Flexibility Service Via smart technology.

Equiwatt, the UK’s leading smart energy app for households, is proud to announce "powerSmart" the new name for its Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) events, giving homes across Britain a chance to benefit from the national scheme for the third year in a row, regardless of who their energy supplier is.

Launched for the third time on November 27th, 2024, National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) Demand Flexibility Service, is a national scheme designed to help households across Great Britain reduce energy consumption during peak times, with the initiative offering rewards while enabling households to contribute to a cleaner energy grid.

equiwatt’s powerSmart programme encourages households to reduce energy use collectively during peak time events via their free app. Households earn points for their energy saving efforts, which can be redeemed for a range of eGift cards, whilst contributing to greater energy savings and grid resilience.

This year, equiwatt has introduced several innovative features that make participating in NESO’s DFS events easier and more rewarding than ever. With new automation options, expanded integrations with smart devices, a revamped app interface, and exciting prize opportunities, equiwatt is solidifying its position as the only dedicated flexibility event app that simplifies energy savings for UK homes with smart meters—regardless of their energy supplier.

Making Flexibility Accessible to All

equiwatt’s powerSmart events provide a simple way for households to participate in DFS. Users can join by downloading the free equiwatt app, where they’ll be notified of upcoming events. By reducing energy usage during these periods, participants earn points that can be redeemed for a variety of eGift cards or charitable donations.

Founder and CEO of equiwatt, Johnson Fernandes, emphasised the platform's unique accessibility:

"We are thrilled to launch our Demand Flexibility Service events with new features that empower all UK households to participate in the clean energy transition. With powerSmart, anyone with a smart meter can effortlessly contribute to reducing peak electricity demand and earn meaningful rewards, all while supporting a greener, more sustainable future."

Smarter Energy Savings with Automation and Integrations

equiwatt’s latest updates include powerful new automations and integrations with devices such as Tado thermostats, EV chargers, and TP-Link smart plugs. These advancements ensure users can seamlessly participate in events without manual adjustments. For instance:

  • Smart thermostats can automatically lower heating during events.

  • EV chargers can pause charging temporarily to reduce electricity demand.

  • Smart plugs can switch devices off and back on automatically.

  • Users can also leverage Open API, webhooks, and IFTTT applets to customise automations, making energy savings even more intuitive.

A Fresh Look and Exciting Rewards

The equiwatt app has been redesigned with a vibrant new interface and features like multi-event opt-in, allowing users to plan ahead and maximise their rewards. In addition to the 27 new eGift card options in the app store, equiwatt has brought back Spot Prizes, where participants can win up to £100 worth of points. Monthly leaderboards and prize draws add even more opportunities to earn.
