As the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) for the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, Northern Powergrid is the driving force behind the electricity distribution network for millions of customers across the North East region of England. 

In partnership with Northern Powergrid, equiwatt is set to revolutionise the way households and businesses across the North East manage their energy consumption in an easy and engaging way, all while contributing to the region's transition to net zero.

Flexibility Services for a Smarter Grid

We are absolutely delighted that Northern Powergrid has chosen equiwatt to join its esteemed portfolio of flexibility service providers. This partnership embodies Northern Powergrid's commitment to a 'flexibility first' approach, leveraging innovative solutions to meet the evolving energy needs of communities and businesses. It also demonstrates the exciting journey that all of us here at equiwatt is on. 

This is our first partnership with one of England’s 6 DNOs. Not only does it enable more households the opportunity to unlock rewards for changing when and how much electricity they use at home but it also provides the opportunity for further flexibility trials and events to be accessed by existing users, enabling equiwatt to contribute to a smarter more flexible grid on both a national and local level.

Introducing 'powerDOWN': A Win-Win Solution

Through our groundbreaking virtual power plant platform and the intuitive 'powerDOWN' programme, the equiwatt app and platform empowers consumers to actively participate in energy management. Our free app rewards users for reducing their energy consumption during peak times, contributing to the stability of the grid while earning incentives in return.

During designated 'powerDOWN' events, households can earn points redeemable for exciting rewards, including eGift cards, simply by adjusting their energy usage. As part of the partnership with Northern Powergrid, households will have opportunities to participate in events between 4.30pm and 7pm every day until the end of the trial. By taking part users have the potential to earn up to £35 worth of points during the trial period alongside the other rewards on offer for taking part in our other events and monthly prize draws.
